Class Descriptions

Beginner’s Mat –This class is designed for participants with minimal or no Pilates experience. Its focus is to provide an introduction to Pilates and to teach the Pilates Principles in a group where everyone is working and learning about Pilates at the same pace. Application of the Principles to basic exercises will be achieved in order to prepare participants for the next level of classes. You will be introduced to some Mat-based equipment as tools for assisting in postural alignment and to make proper muscular connections.
Pre-requisites: No previous experience is needed, just a desire to learn about Pilates!

  • Basic Mat – Take your Beginner’s Mat experience to the next level! In this class you will review and learn new exercises from the Essential Mat repertoire, while continuing to progress your understanding of the essence of the Principles introduced in your Beginner’s Mat class. In this level of class you will be shown how to use some of the Mat-based equipment as tools to increase the challenge of familiar exercises or to guide you through movements in preparation for more advanced level classes. This class is a “stepping stone” between our Beginner’s Mat and Essential Mat classes.
Pre-requisites: Beginner’s Mat class or a full understanding of the Principles and how to apply them or previous Pilates experience.
  • Essential Mat— The foundation of a Pilates Mat workout, this class is the “gateway” to our upper level classes. The Essential Mat repertoire will be covered in this class. Modifications will be provided as needed, so don’t think you have to be an expert to enter this level! However, be prepared for introduction to more of our small Mat-based equipment and a variety of exercises to challenge your basic Principles skills. This class is appropriate for anyone looking to move beyond Basic Mat and for those ready to add more challenge to their workout. The pace of this class and the number of exercises taught will increase compared with the Basic Mat. Participants must understand principles without the need for hands-on correction by the instructor.
Pre-requisites: Solid understanding of basic Principles, Basic Mat experience or comparable Pilates experience.
  • Mat Plus— This class is a collage of small Mat equipment, so anything goes! You will be moving along at a quick and steady pace while utilizing the stability ball, weighted balls, Fitness Circle, Arc Barrel, foam roller, Flexband and small ball. Each piece of equipment will add its own unique challenge to the Essential and Intermediate Mat repertoires. This is definitely a class created for those looking for a fast-paced, challenging workout. Be prepared to work!
Pre-requisites: Solid understanding of the basic Principles and at least Essential Mat experience or comparable Pilates experience.
  • Ball Pilates—A Pilates mat based class that uses a large stability ball, toning balls and small 6” inflatable balls as the main pieces of equipment to increase the intensity of your Pilates workout.  This challenging class will provide an extreme challenge on the mat.
Pre-requisites: Solid understanding of the basic Principles and at least Essential Mat experience or comparable Pilates experience.
  • Mixed Levels—A class designed to encompass all levels of Pilates Mat from Basic Mat to Mat Plus work. Whether you have just completed Beginner’s Mat or have been doing Pilates for years, our instructors will provide options that will make this class appropriately challenging.  Please note that levels of difficulty will be provided during these classes and that participants will be guided by instructors should they choose an inappropriate option for their level of ability.
  • Group Reformer Classes – The Reformer is the key piece of Pilates equipment used to increase stability challenge while adding resistance for both upper and lower body. The Reformer incorporates exercises lying, seated, standing and/or kneeling to challenge the core in many different planes. It differs from mat workouts by adding resistance and by changing positions to create balance and stability challenges. The classes are limited to 5 participants per session so our instructors can provide a focused and safe workout to meet all participants’ needs.  Private training is required prior to the start of Group Reformer classes.  This ensures all clients are familiar with the Reformer repertoire and are able to adjust their reformers to allow the class to flow smoothly.

Basic Reformer is for those participants who have just completed their private training and are new to group Reformer sessions.  All clients must have completed private training prior to entering this class.
Reformer Level 1 increases the challenge provided in Basic Reformer by adding new repertoire with increased stability challenge.  Clients can begin Level 1 Reformer once they have completed a minimum of 12 weeks of Basic Reformer class.
Reformer Level 2 continues the progression of Reformer training to allow participants ongoing challenge in their group Reformer classes.  Jumpboard training is added into the repertoire to increase sports specific training, and add some cardiovascular and interval training challenge to your Reformer class.  Participants are admitted to Level 2 Reformer class at the discretion of the instructor or studio owners.
Reformer Level 3 is the ultimate group Reformer class.  This challenging program incorporates strength, endurance, and cardiovascular training to take your Pilates training to the max.  Participants are admitted to Level 3 Reformer class at the discretion of the instructor or studio owners.
