Niagara College Orientation Trunk Sale
Niagara College Orientation Trunk Sale
Thinking about hosting a garage sale? Kick your plans into high gear by participating in Niagara College’s first Trunk Sale.
Spaces are now available for vendors (from the college community and local residents alike) who wish to sell their items at the College’s Trunk Sale, which will be held at the Welland Campus on September 13 (noon to 3 p.m.) during Orientation Week. Spaces are limited and are available on first-come, first-served basis.
The Trunk Sale will be a free, family-friendly outdoor event to be held rain or shine. In addition to the opportunity for guests to pick up some new treasures – like visiting several garage sales in one location – the event will include activities such as face painting, bouncy castles, an inflatable maze; and a barbecue for guests to enjoy.
Those who wish to sell items – such as reusable clothes, toys, books or furniture – must pay to reserve a parking spot where they will conduct their sales, in advance of the event, giving them a chance to cash in from selling their goods while supporting a worthy cause.
The Trunk Sale is a new addition to the College’s 2015 United Way Campaign. While those who sell items at the event keep all the money raised from their sales, funds raised by the reservation of parking spots where each participant’s items will be sold ($25 for a single spot or $40 for a double) will be donated to the United Way of South Niagara.
“The event is a great way for our students to get, or get rid of, some great items at a student-friendly price point as we usher in the school year; for the NC community and students to spend a fun day together on our campus; and for all to join together to raise money for a worthy cause,” said Lesley Calvin, manager, Student Engagement and Leadership and co-chair of the College’s 2015-16 United Way Campaign.
“This is really going to help our students get some key items they’ll need for the year ahead,” said Ali Koblinsky, student experience coordinator from the Centre for Student Engagement and Leadership, and event organizer. “We encourage everyone to support the United Way and purchase a spot – our staff and faculty, local residents, as well as our upper-year students.”
Niagara College is a long-time supporter of the United Way. Its 2014 United Way Campaign raised a record-setting $40,000 for the United Way of South Niagara through staff and faculty pledges, and revenue from a variety of fundraising initiatives. Funds raised are spent locally in the Niagara region to support agencies, programs, and services for needy families and individuals.
Individuals interested in selling items at the event must purchase/reserve parking spots before September 11. Those who reserve spots will be assigned a numbered parking space where they may sell their reusable items at the event. The items must be displayed within the perimeter of the parking spots. Vendors may also choose to sell items from their trunk/car (within the reserved spot) or utilize the entire space for their items. Vendors must bring their own supply of bills and coins for change, as well as their own equipment (tables, chairs, racks, tarps, money boxes, etc).
