CFUW May Meeting and Afghan Market

Wednesday, May 15, 2019 - 19:00

Guest Speaker. Ms. Murwarid Ziayee, Senior Director of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan (CW4WAfghan)

We are thrilled to have the Senior Director for Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan speak at our May meeting. For over 10 years Welland and District Unit members have been holding and attending Breaking Bread luncheons and dinners raising money to support CW4WAfghan to ensure Afghan girls would be educated.

We were motivated to learn at the time that $700. Canadian dollars would provide a teacher for a year. Over the past 10 years we have raised approximately $10,000 for this worthy cause.

Ms. Murwarid Ziayee, CW4Wafghan-Canada’s Senior Director responsible for program management and supporting public engagement , outreach and fund development will attend our May 15th meeting at Plymouth Cordage Retirement Centre to share with us firsthand how our support of this organization has assisted women in

Afghanistan. Ms. Ziayee was CW4Wafghan’s Country Director in Kabul for 7 years, managing the day- to- day operations at the Kabul Office and undertaking the monitoring, evaluation and reporting on the partners and projects. Prior to that, Ms Ziayee held many important positions in Afghanistan supporting women’s rights issues and has an excellent understanding of the current situation and issues for women’s rights in her country. She is a leader and advocate for women’s rights and the recipient of the CW4WAfghan Champion for Education Award(2015). This award is in recognition of her many achievements, her dedication, knowledge and passion for advancing education for Afghan women and girls.

WE INVITE ANYONE INTERESTED TO HEAR MS. ZIWAYEE SPEAK TO JOIN US ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, at 7pm at Plymouth Cordage Retirement Residence, 110 First Avenue Welland.

There will also be an Afghan Marketplace set up for cash purchases to also support  Afghan women.

This is a rare opportunity to hear first hand about women in Afghanistan and we are excited to share it with all interested. Please join us.
