Recognizing the cultural value of a walk-friendly environment, one of the first priorities when the Rotary Club of Fonthill was founded in 1991 was to sponsor the establishment of the Steve Bauer Trail system. This 6-kilometre multi-use trail loops through various Fonthill neighbourhoods, linking into Thorold to the north and Welland to the south.

Waste Reduction Week is a national environmental campaign which builds awareness around sustainable and responsible consumption, and promotes actions to divert more waste from disposal and conserve natural resources. Niagara Region, in recognition of Waste Reduction Week, will be offering free public tours, hosting an information booth and holding a contest to inform residents about the importance of waste reduction. Tours are free of charge; however, reservations are required to participate in the tours and space is limited.

 The Ride for Refuge going through PELHAM tomorrow is in need of a few more VOLUNTEERS for to serve as ROUTE MARSHALLS. Volunteers of any age are welcome, including students that are in need of community hours. The time frame most needed is 8:30-12 tomorrow.
 

Welland police contacted Habitat for Humanity Niagara informing them they have found the tools stolen from the their construction trailer last week. The tools were recovered during a drug bust by the Welland police.

There are various types of climate change adaptation strategies: technological, structural or those that are determined by policies and governmental decisions. Technological or structural adaptations are those that are related to any type of manipulation or intervention, such as the construction of a protection wall, infrastructure improvement, or even structural relocation.While some of these strategies can be simple and inexpensive to enact, others may be complex and potentially cost–prohibitive.

The Pelham Art Association hosted a Batik Watercolour Workshop by encaustic artist Linda Virio of Bowmanville this past Saturday at the Pelham Public Library. Eight area artists enjoyed the day experimenting with wax layers and water colour paints on rice paper.

 

Habitat for Humanity Niagara got hit again, this time with thieves breaking into its construction trailer that was parked behind the Fonthill ReStore located on Highway 20. The trailer held all of the tools needed for Habitat’s home building projects, with the majority of the tools to be used by for skills training by students of the Niagara Peninsula Aboriginal Area Management Board (NPAAMB) Building Futures Indigenous Youth program. The break-in was discovered this morning when the Fonthill ReStore staff opened the store for business.
