Many people think that translators can do any kind of translation brought to them. I can say with certainty that that’s not true. Translators try their very best to be knowledgeable in as many areas as possible, but there are certain types of translation that require specialized knowledge: legal translations, medical translations, technical translations, etc.

There's a lot of confusion on sugar wax, because it's a term that could mean one of two things. Either it's a sugaring gel that's made up of natural ingredients like sugar, water and lemon juice, or it's actually a wax resin product that also contains sugar.

In most endeavors, concentration is quite helpful. But that may not be the case when it comes to investing. In fact, if your portfolio contains too high a concentration of a single investment, you could run into trouble. Fortunately, it’s not hard to recognize the signs of “overconcentration” — and once you do, you can take steps to correct it.

Wouldn’t spring cleaning be so much more gratifying if – somewhere under dusty barbecue parts and outgrown hockey skates – you found an envelope with, say, $5,000 in cash? Wouldn’t that make spring cleaning worthwhile?  Well, you may not uncover a financial windfall when you’re cleaning the garage this spring, but if you are continuously carrying a large amount of high interest debt, a little time and attention to the task of spring cleaning that financial clutter can be very rewarding.

So exciting to find Jim Summersides in Wageningen, Netherlands today. He was one of eight Canadian Vets to have a private meeting with Prime Minister Harper before the parade.

Even the weather was dramatic, fit for the celebration. Just before the parade the sky went black and it poured! Then as the parade began, the skies cleared and the sun came out. Beautiful!

It is interesting to hear the various voices on matters of taxation. There are some who see taxes as evil, something to reduce or eliminate as less government is better government. There are others at the end of the spectrum who see taxes as apportioning our fair share for better communities and better lives. No matter where you sit on the spectrum about taxes, everyone wants to see value for money and the elimination of waste and duplication.

When I first started out in translation, I had a lot to learn. One of the most difficult things for me was the concept of “project collaboration”. I honestly thought that if I was organized enough, I wouldn’t have to work with other translators to get my projects done. I was wrong. Sometimes there simply isn’t enough time.
