As an investor, what are your goals? You can probably think of quite a few — but over the course of your lifetime, your objectives typically will fall into four key categories. And once you’re familiar with these areas, you can start thinking of what they’ll mean to you in terms of your financial and investment strategies.

The Nominees for the 2015 Ruby Awards were announced at a breakfast held this morning at the Seaway Mall Centre Court. The Chamber is happy to see the community once again put forth so many deserving businesses and citizens. Over 60 nominations have been accepted for the various business and community service awards that will be presented at the Ruby Awards Ceremony, taking place on October 16th 2015 at Lookout Point Golf & Country Club from 6:00pm to 10:00pm.  Tickets for the event are $50.00 per person, or $40 per person when booking a table of 8 or more. Final wrap up from this years 1st Annual Cowboy Classic! $16,500.00 raised and over $85,000.00 since started 8 years ago. Great way to honour Claude Poulin. Feel free to share and pass along. Thank you to all involved, sponsors, players, family and friends.

Property Purchase
We were scheduled to take possession of the Cordage Green property on June 30th and then July 28th.  We are still waiting.  The City of Welland, who owns the land, discovered that there were a couple of undischarged mortgages on lots that somehow got missed when they took back the land for unpaid taxes sometime in the 1950’s.   This will require a court order to discharge the mortgages.

The Sign is Up!

Golf professional J. J. Alexander of Lookout Point Country Club updated Council on this year's 1,000 Golf Ball Challenge that raised $7,000 in support of Wellspring Niagara. A cheque was presented to Wellspring's Ann Mancini-Celina who explained the funds will go directly toward the capital campaign to construct a facility in East Fonthill along Wellspring Way. The Town of Pelham signed an MOU with Wellspring in April 2014.

Location matters when it comes to your smoke alarms. That’s the message behind the 2015 Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Hear the Beep Where You Sleep!” Along with firefighters and safety advocates nationwide, Pelham Fire Services is reminding everyone during this year’s Fire Prevention Week (October 4 to 10) about the importance of having working smoke alarms outside each sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement.

A company or professional’s brand identity, and how it’s used to communicate with the public, can make or break growth and success. Niagara’s premier professional development day, GWEn (Growing Women Entrepreneurs) 2015 Conference, will address brand evolution, tactics in all areas including social media, and highlight the brand development of keynote speaker, celebrity chef and host of Food Network’s “Bake with Anna Olson”, Anna Olson. This inclusive day-long event will take women entrepreneurs “Beyond The Brand” as they come together for a day of education, inspiration and connection.

Brock University has been named Fairtrade Canada’s Campus of the Year for its continuing efforts to provide students with fair trade options where food is sold or served.

The national award is given to a university that makes offering fair trade products a priority and that educates and raises awareness about the importance of fair trade products.

“A big thing is making sure people are being treated fairly and knowing where our food comes from,” said Popular Culture student Anneka Bosse, co-chair of Brock’s fair trade committee.

The heavy rain and changing winds may have stopped the show at the Niagara Food Festival last weekend but it didn’t stop a class act like Kim Mitchell from recognizing a community need and providing The Hope Centre with a generous donation.

Surviving cancer is probably the biggest fight you will have and once cancer-free (being in remission for 5 years deems a patient cancer-free) it finds people still having some side-effects as they did with cancer or its treatments. I know this because it is what I have heard from clients. Clients have said they feel anxious even depressed wondering ‘is the cancer going to come back’ or confused about ‘how do i live life? What should i be eating? Can i exercise? Can i get massage?’ as well as being cautious about everything they do.

In July, Hotel Dieu Shaver received funding from the HNHB LHIN to expand its Ontario Telemedicine Network program to accommodate specialized populations. The expansion of the OTN program will allow Hotel Dieu Shaver to incorporate nursing support for clients who require access to Medical Specialists via OTN, such as clients with neuromuscular disabilities, including but not limited to Parkinson’s disease, ALS and AAC Clinic clients. This expansion will also include incorporating OTN services through patient home visits. The goal of this OTN expansion is to alleviate the personal and economic hardship of our clients and decrease our wait lists. Many clients are travelling outside of Niagara multiple times per year to meet with their neurologist.
