The Maple Acre Branch of the Pelham Library is selling notecards featuring historic barns and homes of Fenwick.  The images are watercolour reproductions of the exhibition by Greta Hildebrand, held at the library this summer in conjunction with the opening of Fenwick’s revitalization project.

Hello September! We welcome the start of our Fall selling season on the tail of an extremely buoyant Summer market in Niagara.

The Niagara Association of REALTORS® (NAR) reported 725 property sales processed through the NAR Multiple Listing Service (MLS®) system in August. This represents a 19.8% increase in sales over August of last year.

The residential average sale price of $281,085 was 18.3% higher than last August. The average days on market decreased from 61 to 49 in the residential freehold market, and decreased from 81 to 66 in the condominium market.

You may recall that in January, I wrote here about the effort to help make Niagara Regional government more accountable, open, and democratic, by electing the Regional Chair at large. What happened? Well, Regional Council voted to defer the debate and get more historic information. That motion comes up for consideration at our Corporate Services committee on Wednesday, September 23.

    Pelham Fire Services is reminding residents that flying paper lanterns (also known as sky lanterns) are a potential fire hazard, particularly during the current hot and humid weather conditions.


    As I wrote about in the spring, the Ontario Government is reviewing the Greenbelt Plan, Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, Oak Ridges Moraine Plan, and Niagara Escarpment Plan. In April, I wrote to the Expert Advisory Panel overseeing this Review and implored them to increase the protection of the Fonthill Kame. I recently sent another letter to the Panel, and I am hoping that you will too!

    Women entrepreneurship workshops presented by The Welland Heritage Council offer an opportunity for participants to apply for a microloan and be mentored by a business woman upon workshop completion.
