There's a brand new beverage on the shelves at Niagara College’s Wine Visitor + Education Centre. The Niagara College Teaching Winery has launched its first cider. Named Cider 101 – it's a cider lesson in a can at the teaching winery – the new addition marks a first for the college's trailblazing Canadian Food and Wine Institute, which is also home of the first commercial teaching winery and teaching brewery in Canada.

It was wonderful to see the streets and shops of Downtown Fonthill a beehive of activity as the 5th Annual Holiday Gift Showcase & Downtown Stroll took place on the 1st Wednesday evening in November.

One of our favourite comments about the event came from new local resident, Jody Vizza. "@TownOfPelham what a great event to get to know our new community! #Stroll2015 #LoveLivingInPelham "

Yes indeed.

We are expecting an announcement later this year from the provincial government concerning new rules for waste management. We do not know if the changes will lead to expansions of responsibilities for local governments or more responsibilities for the producers of products… more on this as legislation is introduced. However, at the regional level, we are introducing some changes which we expect will increase our waste diversion rates, earn more potential income and be better received by the citizens.

As we commemorate Remembrance Day this year, I was reminded of part of my family’s trip to Europe last spring. On May 5 we made our way to Wageningen, in Southern Holland. That’s where 70 years before German General Blaskowitz surrendered to Canadian General Foulkes, officially ending the war in the Netherlands.

Unless you keep close track of obscure holidays and observances, you probably didn’t know that August is “What Will Be Your Legacy?" Month. Still, you might want to use this particular month as a useful reminder to take action on what could be one of your most important financial goals: leaving a meaningful legacy.A legacy isn’t simply a document or a bunch of numbers — it’s what you will be remembered for, and what you have left behind that will be remembered. It’s essentially your chance to contribute positively to the future, whether that means providing financial resources for the next generation, helping those charitable organizations whose work you support, or a combination of both.

When Adam Shoalts ventured into the largest unexplored wilderness on the planet, he hoped to set foot where no one had ever gone before. What he discovered surprised even him. Shoalts was no stranger to the wilderness. He had hacked his way through jungles and swamp, had stared down polar bears and climbed mountains. But one spot on the map called out to him irresistibly: the Hudson Bay Lowlands, a trackless expanse of muskeg and lonely rivers, caribou and wolf—an Amazon of the north, parts of which to this day remain unexplored.

Your credit score is essentially your passport to financial opportunities. With a possible range of 300 to 900, your number tells lenders what kind of a risk you are likely to be as a borrower. A low credit score can prevent you from getting the lowest mortgage rate, or even from getting a mortgage at all. That’s why it’s important to know the six credit behaviors that can keep your score high, or give it a boost!

During their last meeting, Council asked staff for further information regarding the proposed Zoning By-Law Amendment and Site Plan Amendment of 1022 Pelham Street (located on the south side of Welland Road, east of Pelham Street) to permit a commercial development on the remainder of the lands consisting of a gas bar and other commercial uses including convenience retail. On Monday, Council supported the Zoning By-law Amendment to a site specific Neighbourhood Commercial “NC-108” that allows a gas station. As well, Council approved the proposed Site Plan Agreement with 4 High Street Inc. subject to a limit of a four island gas station and increasing landscaping and buffering. Staff will prepare the necessary by-laws by November 16, 2015 for Council’s consideration.
