It's not enough to just do good: local non-profit groups are realizing they also have to be good. That's why the Niagara Community Foundation is launching a new program to help local non-profits improve their leadership - by ensuring they are operating at the highest professional standards.

On Monday, February 1, 2016, Pelham Council set precedent by naming a key street in the East Fonthill development “Summersides Boulevard,” after Jim Summersides, a World War II veteran of the elite, joint Canadian-American “First Special Service Force.”

    Pelham Town Council will be making a special presentation to WWII Veteran Jim Summersides in Council Chambers tonight at 6:30. Mr. Summersides will be presented with a ceremonial plaque to celebrate the naming of the new street linking Downtown Fonthill (extending Pelham Town Square) to the new East Fonthill development - 'Summersides Boulevard'.

    The 19th annual Many Hands Project recipient is The Hope Centre in Welland. A Groundbreaking event took place to kick off the Niagara College initiative. Leah Schoeman reports for TV Cogeco Niagara.

    To build on my column last week about some of the largest projects for 2016, I wanted to continue to inform you about some of the major road, bridge and sidewalk improvement planned for Pelham this year.


    Mac or PC? Since we all walk around connected to phones, tablets and laptops, I thought this analogy might make sense for many of you. My programmer extraordinaire made the leap from PC to Mac recently and that got me thinking.     2016 started with a breath of fresh air wafting its way magically through the studio. Inspiration and passion struck at the same time. Those of you who follow my work know, I am totally enamoured with the power and great beauty of the Canadian Shield. This love affair began as a little girl by the knee of my Grandma Coleman (who was herself an amazing self- taught artist) at the family cottage in Muskoka. She loved the massive granite rocks and huge pine trees and her passion for the near north rubbed off on me.
