I recently began looking for people around Niagara who contribute positively to the community. My interest in the subject was sparked while writing 8 Reasons Why The Niagara Region Is Making The World A Better Place. The response has been incredible! A Unique Perspective is an amazing artist with a passion for our community. The art Jennifer produces is a reflection of her love for our region, it is a beautiful form of creativity and self-expression.

Council recently approved the Town’s 2016 Operating Budget. The new budget translates into an increase of approximately 7.8% (or $107.44) on the Pelham portion of your property tax bill for the average residential property (assessed at $309,200). Since Pelham’s portion of your property taxes represents roughly 37% of your overall residential tax, we anticipate the average “blended” increase – including the Regional and Provincial portions – to be around 2.9%.

One of our local favourite community events is re-launching with a new twist - the Pelham Home AND GARDEN Show.

For the last 20 years the Fonthill and District Kinsmen have named the show the 'Pelham Home and Leisure Show'. Fonthill Kinsmen Member, Bob Wastle explains, "With all the local interest in gardening and growing local food we felt it was time to bring in more vendors that provide products and services for garden enthusiasts. The timing of our show is ideal - right at the beginning of the Spring when people are just getting ready for the new gardening season.

They may be heading to warmer climates for their Reading Week break, but several of Niagara College students have helping others on their itinerary. One group bound for Honduras will have soccer balls, jerseys and other recreation equipment in tow, to bring to poverty stricken children in Honduras. When it comes to an investment portfolio, one size does not fit all. Like many things in life, your investment portfolio should be customized to meet your particular needs.  A good place to begin is determining your desired asset allocation – the relative proportion of equities, cash, and fixed-income investments you want to hold. Although asset allocation does not guarantee a profit or protect against a loss in a declining market, it is extremely important. As described in a report in Financial Analysts Journal by researchers Gary P. Brinson, Brian Singer and Gilbert Breebower, asset allocation typically accounts for more than 90 per cent of your portfolio’s long-term performance.
