This Week in Baseball

The weekly "This Week In Baseball" articles overview the activities of various Pelham Minor Baseball Association teams.  Teams span from T-Ball to Midget age with several rep teams representing Pelham across the region.  Please watch for some familiar names throughout the season!

Pictured is Rookie Blue Jay Levi Enzlin playing backcatcher for the first time versus the Thorold Athletics. The Blue Jays, sponsored by the Fonthill Lions, have had a good start to the season.  Players are focusing on mechanics and learning how to play the game while having fun!

The Willowbrook Mosquito Pirates have had a fantastic start to their season and have only lost two games to the Welland Rangers.  The Pirates have seen stiff competion from Welland and Port Colborne teams but have presented superior fielding skills, pitching and timely hitting.  Well done team!

Although they started strong, the Lafarge Peewee Orioles could not best the Bromac Indians' late game pitching in this week's contest. The players have already improved noticeably and look forward to a competitive run in the playoffs.

The Pelham Medical Associates Peewee Rep team had a busy and HOT week!  In a contest against the Binbrook Bisons, Pelham won 12-8 after coming out strong in the first two innings to go ahead by 8 runs. Extra base hits by Ethan Krick, Trevor Heaslip, Chase Munn and Andy Nawrocki got the team on the board early. Season nemesis, the Niagara Falls Majors, accounted for the majority of the action with 3 games in 6 days.  Although Pelham could not conquer, the games were very close with excellent pitching outings by Lucas Grant and a complete game by Liam Vokey. In the final showdown, catcher Cameron Wells threw out two base runners and shortstop Matthew Oakes made back to back tight plays. The team would like to thank the community of Pelham for their support in the recent bottle drive. The boys were greeted by smiling faces and encouraging words from the many homes that they visited. Special thanks to Iggy's Pub & Grub, The Broken Gavel and Peter Piper's Pubhouse for making the drive a success!
