PHOTO ALBUM: Remembrance Day 2017
It was a cold and crisp Remembrance Day as our community gathered together to honour the fallen at Veteran's Park in front of our Legion.
As the ceremony began the sun streamed in to help moderate the temperature and the sounds of the bagpipes, trumpets and the war planes passing overhead warmed the hearts of the huge crowd in attendance.
This year marks the centennial of two famous battles: the Battle of Passchendaele (ended on Nov. 10, 1917 after the loss of 4,000 Canadians) and the Battle of Vimy Ridge where nearly 3,600 Canadians killed. It is also the 75th anniversary of the Second World War’s famed Dieppe Raid.
Veterans, Military personnel, Legion members, elected officials, and citizens bowed their heads together as prayers and words of Remembrance were read. Wreaths of remembrance poppies were laid by representatives of a wide cross section of community organizations during the ceremony of remembrance.
Afterwards the Legion was filled to capacity as everyone shared a time of fellowship and enjoyed hot beef on a bun generously donated by Country Corner Market.
