Local Lions Clubs Purchase Ipads for Niagara Diabetes Centre

Lions Alan Beamer & Susan Beamer ( Co-chairs of Lions District A-2 ) recently met with the Diabetes Educators at the Welland Hospital Diabetes Clinic to see the IPads purchased by the Lions Clubs of our local District, in use.

"Nurses Rose (left) & Kim (right) showed us how they work with clients to plan meals, look up foods to be able to count their carbohydrates & sugars to keep their blood sugar in balance. There is also an app for children to use when they are at school to help inform teachers & other students about diabetes and  what the student has to do to stay healthy.

These IPads will allow newly diagnosed clients to practice with help & then to transfer those learned skills to their own computers to manage their own program. Staying on track is very important in managing diabetes

Thank you to all who helped fund these important tools!" Lion Alan & Lion/Lioness Susan Beamer

About Lions Clubs International Service Areas - Diabetes

The Lions Clubs International Global Service Framework focuses the efforts of Lions and Leos on five service areas with the goal of tripling our humanitarian impact by serving 200 million people per year by 2021. The Global Service Framework complements all of the great ways clubs serve locally, and gives Lions and Leos new opportunities to help meet the growing challenges facing humanity.

Lions Service Areas

Diabetes contributes to more than 5 million deaths a year, making it the eighth-leading cause of death in the world. And the numbers are rising. Lions and Leos are confronting this global health emergency by raising awareness of diabetes through Strides events, expanding access to care through screening and treatment programs, and improving quality of life through diabetes camps and community recreational programs. We believe we can help prevent and control this global epidemic by uniting Lions and Leos around this cause.

Lions Club Diabetes Chairpersons serve at the district and multiple district levels and are appointed by the district governor or council chairperson, respectively. Diabetes Chairpersons support Lions and Leos engaged or interested in projects to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed. They may collaborate with leadership throughout the organization, including the Global Service Team (GST).
