CFUW Welland and District sponsored March Break author’s presentation, was a big success, at libraries in Port Colborne and Welland and also at Pelham Meridian Community Centre on Tuesday during March Break.

Rebecca Bender Children’s Author and Illustrator presented to eager audiences at all three locations. She involved participants in the illustrating process as well as introducing them to her stories encouraging new readers, writers and artists in the writing process.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 613 is initiating an “Honour our Veterans Banner Program” in partnership with the Town of Pelham. This program will be an ongoing legacy program that will pay tribute to all Canadian and Allied veterans and active Service Members. Cabar-EH Youth Theatre is Pelham’s Premier Youth Theatre with over 20 years’ experience in Musical Theatre and 3yrs+ in Pelham, Cabar-EH Youth Theatre continues to produce professional Musical Theatre shows for Youth by Youth in and around the Niagara Region. This year Cabar-EH’s Youth Casts will be performing Junie B Jones the Musical Jr. at the prestigious Ridley College’s Mandeville Theatre in St. Catharines.

After Citizen of the Year and serial Fundraiser extraordinaire, Frank Adamson, opened his remarks reflecting on this poem by John Donne he turned the tables on his fellow Citizens.

First, he described how Rotary Clubs across the globe had partnered together in 1985 to found The Global Polio Eradication Initiative. This public-private partnership is led by national governments with five partners – the World Health Organization (WHO), Rotary International, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Over the last 30 years they have reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent and are nearing the finish line to completely eradicate the disease.

Niagara Region Public Health is investigating a laboratory confirmed case of measles in an adult who acquired their infection while travelling outside Canada.  Any person who visited the following public locations are being asked to watch for signs and symptoms and to ensure their vaccination is up to date as they may have been exposed to measles.

At our Dinner Meeting on March 6 2019 the Fabulous Fenwick Lions had Melissa Wells from the Pelham Minor Baseball Association attend so the Club could present our 2019 donation.

The results from the public survey closing Monday March 4, on the whether the Town should sell or retain a portion of the Haist Street property, are now in.

Brock University and Niagara Health launched a new partnership Friday, March 8 that will increase opportunities to improve the overall health and well-being in our region and beyond. It will place a heightened focus on research that will help people stay healthy, improve both patient outcomes and the way health care is delivered, and create training and employment opportunities for Brock students and graduates.
