To help ensure that employers understand their obligations and that employees know their rights, the Minister of Labour has prepared and published a new Employment Standards Poster entitled “Employment Standards in Ontario”. This poster describes important rights and requirements under the Employment Standards Act, 2000 (ESA) and must be posted in the workplace where it is likely that employees will see it. Employers are also required to give every employee a copy of the poster.

The board and I are looking forward to 2018 and facing the new opportunities and challenges for local business as our town continues to grow and the business climate is altered from new federal and provincial rules. The new year has already brought significant changes with the introduction of the Fair Wages and Better Jobs Act, a provincial corporate tax cut to 3.5% of profit, and we can expect further changes to the taxation of small businesses by the federal government.

Formally known as the Pelham Mudfest Challenge, the same great down and dirty challenge for 2018 has rebranded to Niagara Mudfest Challenge. Still located in the heart of Pelham at Bissell’s Hideaway, the Niagara Mudfest Challenge this year takes place Saturday, May 5. The mud run is open once again to both children and adults. The children’s course is smaller in length and obstacles, for those ages 6 to 12, while the adult course is open to anyone 13 or older, and is about 6km in length, with various muddy obstacles to climb over, slide down, crawl through or under.
